BR steam loco 71000 'Duke of Gloucester', was the only one of its kind. It was built in 1954 for use on WCML expresses.

• The loco was based at Crewe North shed in its BR days.
• 71000 is known to have appeared in Glasgow Central on the Mid-day Scot in 1954.
• It was withdrawn from service in November 1962
• The loco was saved by preservationists and eventually restored to mainline operation.

• The loco visited Scotland on Rail tours in 2008 and 2011.
